From fine art to fonts, meet Dave Rowland Type

Dave Rowland, the creative mind behind Dave Rowland Type (formerly Eclectotype and Schizotype), hails from Sheffield, UK. His path to type design wasn’t exactly planned. After studying Fine Art at university, Dave dabbled in video art and even slung pizzas while trying to figure out life's next move. It wasn’t until he landed a job designing tableware logos that he stumbled into his typography obsession. Hours tracing logos for companies introduced him to the world of beziér curves and the surprising revelation that fonts were something people actually bought.

His type design journey kicked off with some quirky and playful experiments, before evolving as he honed his craft. Today, Dave offers a diverse range of typefaces—from elegant scripts to distinctive text fonts. His designs reflect his globe-trotting experiences in Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand. This global exposure has shaped his unique approach to type design, making his work versatile and anything but cookie-cutter.
